Small Plane Crash in Bristol, Maine, Results in One Fatality and One Injury
A small Diamond DA20 aircraft crashed into the ocean off Bristol, Maine, on Thursday afternoon, resulting in one fatality and one injury. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls near Fort William Henry, finding the two-seat plane upside down in approximately four feet of water. Local residents and a building crew assisted in the immediate aftermath. The male pilot was pulled from the wreckage but died at the scene, while a male passenger managed to escape and was transported to a hospital in Damariscotta with non-life-threatening injuries. Initial information suggests the aircraft, which had departed from Brunswick Airport en route to Knox County Airport, may have experienced mechanical failure. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the cause of the crash. The Bristol Fire and Rescue Department, Central Lincoln County Ambulance, and Maine Marine Patrol also responded to the incident.
