St. John Bosco's Vision of Hell Emphasizes Divine Mercy and Free Will
St. John Bosco, a Catholic saint known for his ministry to troubled youth, experienced a vivid dream depicting hell. This vision, shared with future generations, served as a warning about the consequences of rejecting divine grace. Bosco described entering an immense, fire-filled cavern where boys were hurtling into the flames. When he questioned if they knew where they were going, his guide responded that they were aware, having been warned numerous times, but chose to rush into the fire due to their refusal to detest sin, forsake it, and accept God's merciful invitations to do penance. The dream highlights God's persistent calls to repentance and the human freedom to accept or reject these invitations. Other mystics, including St. Teresa of Avila, St. Faustina Kowalska, and Sr. Lucia of Fatima, have also provided accounts of hell, which the Catholic Church presents as real.
