SimFer Joint Venture Advances Guinea Iron-Ore Project to 74% Completion
The SimFer joint venture, involving the Republic of Guinea government, Rio Tinto, and the CIOH consortium led by Chinalco, has reported significant progress in its Simandou iron-ore project in Guinea. As of March 2026, the project is 74% complete, with key infrastructure such as bulk earthworks and permanent process facilities advancing as planned. The project has achieved several milestones, including the shipment of 600,000 tons of iron ore in the first quarter of 2026, with initial sales in China by April. The SimFer rail spur, a crucial link to the Trans-Guinean main rail line, is fully operational, facilitating ore transportation to international markets. The SimFer port is also progressing ahead of schedule, with 78% completion and commissioning expected in early 2027.
