CAR T-Cell Therapy Offers New Hope for Autoimmune Disease Patients
A woman with three autoimmune conditions has experienced significant recovery after receiving CAR T-cell therapy, a treatment that genetically modifies immune cells to target and eliminate rogue cells. This therapy, initially developed for cancer, has shown promise in treating autoimmune diseases by resetting the immune system. The patient, who was previously bedridden, has not required treatment for nearly a year following the therapy. CAR T-cell therapy works by engineering T-cells to attack specific targets, in this case, the immune cells causing the autoimmune response. The treatment has been effective in putting patients into remission, offering a potential new avenue for managing autoimmune diseases.
