Build-A-Bear Recalls 36,000 Plush Bears Due to Choking Hazard from Zipper
Build-A-Bear has announced a recall of approximately 36,000 Heartwarming Hugs weighted plush bears due to a potential choking hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that the bears feature a side pouch with a heart filled with ceramic beads, which can be heated or cooled. The pouch is secured with a zipper, but the zipper slider can detach, posing a choking risk. Although no injuries have been reported, there was an incident in the United Kingdom where the zipper slider detached. The bears, intended for children aged 3 and up, were sold at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and online starting in January for about $48. Consumers are advised to stop using the bears immediately and return them to a store for a refund or gift card. Those unable to visit a store can request a free return shipping label through the company's website.
