North Carolina Lawmakers Face Challenges in Overriding Concealed Carry Veto
In North Carolina, the battle over concealed carry laws continues as Republican lawmakers struggle to override a veto by Democratic Governor Josh Stein. Senate Bill 50, which aimed to lower the age for handgun ownership from 21 to 18 and allow adults to carry concealed weapons without a permit, was vetoed by Stein in June 2025. Despite the Senate's success in overriding the veto, the House has not yet attempted a vote, with Speaker Destin Hall indicating a lack of sufficient support. Grassroots NC, a Second Amendment advocacy group, is pressuring lawmakers to act, while some Republicans and law enforcement officials express concerns over public safety.
