Man Arrested for Stealing $11K Geodes from Rye Arts Center and Attempting Sale to Undercover Cop
Kyle Folkes, a 27-year-old from New Rochelle, was arrested for allegedly stealing geodes valued at approximately $11,000 from the Rye Arts Center in New York. The theft occurred between March 20 and March 23, and Folkes attempted to sell the stolen geodes on Facebook Marketplace. Unbeknownst to him, he arranged a sale with an undercover police officer at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck, leading to his arrest. The geodes, donated by local benefactor Robert R. Wiener, were part of an outdoor display and are considered 'nature's art' by the Rye Arts Center. The center lacks outdoor security cameras, so the investigation relied heavily on public information. Folkes faces charges of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, which could result in up to seven years of imprisonment. He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on April 9.
