City of Yuma Fire Department Opens Recruitment for Fire Fighter Recruits
The City of Yuma Fire Department has initiated a recruitment drive for Fire Fighter Recruits. The application window is open until September 6, 2026, or until 600 applications are received, whichever comes first. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age by September 6, 2025, possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and meet the Fire Department's medical and physical ability standards. The hiring process involves several stages, including pre-physical testing, a written exam, Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) practice sessions and testing, panel interviews, a Chief's interview, and a medical examination. Successful recruits will then attend a 22-week Fire Academy. The starting annual salary for a 40-hour week is $50,992 until graduation from the academy. Upon successful completion and promotion to Fire Fighter/EMT, the salary will be $58,562 annually, with pay depending on the work schedule (either a 40-hour or 56-hour week).
