Santa Clara County District Attorney Awards $50,000 in 'Bend the Arc' Grants to Community Groups
The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office has awarded $50,000 in 'Bend the Arc' grants to 14 community groups this year. This grant program, named after a quote by Martin Luther King Jr., aims to address racial discrimination and promote equality within the criminal justice system. The funds, ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 per grant, are sourced from the DA's Asset Forfeiture Fund, which comprises money seized from criminal organizations, drug traffickers, and gangs. Since its inception in 2021, the DA's Office has distributed over $300,000 back into the community through this program. This year saw a record 70 applications for the increasingly competitive grants. The awarded funds will support a diverse range of initiatives, including programs for incarcerated youth, self-defense courses for Asian women, assistance for Latino parents with disabled children, fraud prevention for Vietnamese seniors, and support services for young mothers of color.
