Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Accuses Activist of Assault, Video Contradicts Claim
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, accused Medea Benjamin, co-founder of the activist group CODEPINK, of assaulting her outside the Capitol. Luna claimed that Benjamin 'smacked' her arm during an encounter following Luna's questioning of Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding sanctions against Cuba. Video footage shared on social media showed Benjamin following Luna and questioning her, with Benjamin's hand appearing to brush Luna's arm. Luna responded by stating, 'Wait, you touched me,' and threatened to call Capitol Police. Benjamin apologized, asserting the contact was inadvertent, and walked away. Luna continued to assert on social media that Benjamin had hit her, and expressed her intention to file charges. Luna stated she had given statements to the U.S. Capitol Police and anticipated criminal charges against Benjamin, although no charges have been confirmed.
