Illinois General Assembly Urged to Enhance Environmental Protections Amid Federal Rollbacks
On Earth Day, Howard A. Learner, CEO of the Environmental Law & Policy Center, emphasized the need for Illinois to take decisive action in environmental protection. He highlighted the importance of passing the Illinois Wetlands Protection Act to safeguard the state's remaining wetlands, which have been left vulnerable following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency and federal rollbacks under President Trump's administration. Learner also called for improvements in Chicago's public transit system, responsible management of data centers, and protection of Lake Michigan's shoreline. These measures are seen as critical steps in addressing environmental challenges and ensuring a healthier future for Illinois residents.
