Bulgaria Denies Oil Slick from Sanctioned Tanker, Calls for Investigation
Bulgaria has denied reports of an oil slick emanating from the hulk of a sanctioned oil tanker, Kairos, which was damaged by a Ukrainian attack in November 2025. Greenpeace Bulgaria has released satellite images suggesting the presence of an oil slick near the tanker, calling for a full investigation. The tanker, involved in the Russian oil trade, was sanctioned by the EU and UK in 2025. Despite inspections by Bulgarian authorities finding no active leaks, Greenpeace claims the slick stretches approximately 6.5 nautical miles, urging further checks to confirm its origin.
