Stonewall Inn Co-Owners Strive to Honor Legacy and Impact LGBTQ+ Future
Stacy Lentz, co-owner of the Stonewall Inn and CEO of the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative, shares her journey of acquiring the historic site with her co-owners to preserve its legacy and support the LGBTQ+ community. Lentz, who grew up in Kansas, moved to New York City and became a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. In 2006, she and her partners purchased the Stonewall Inn to prevent its closure, despite the financial burden it imposed. The Inn, a pivotal site in LGBTQ+ history, now serves not only as a bar but also as a community center hosting various events. Lentz emphasizes the importance of not just preserving history but also actively supporting the future of the LGBTQ+ community through initiatives like the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative, which provides safe-space training and support to LGBTQ+ individuals in challenging environments.
