Suspicious Fire in Duncan Apartment Building Leaves Two Dead and Displaces Approximately 50 Residents
A suspicious fire erupted in an apartment building in Duncan, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and the displacement of around 50 residents. The incident occurred early Friday morning at the Gala Vista apartments on Government Street. Fire Chief Geoff Spriggs of the City of Duncan reported receiving multiple 911 calls around 2:30 a.m., with reports of significant smoke in the hallways, trapping residents in their units. Fire departments from Duncan, North Cowichan, and Cowichan Bay collaborated on fire suppression efforts on the second floor and conducted rescue operations, evacuating people from balconies and smoke-affected units.
