Tropical Storm Arthur Causes $112M in Agricultural Losses in Louisiana
Tropical Storm Arthur brought catastrophic flooding to Louisiana on June 18-19, 2026, resulting in an estimated $112 million in agricultural losses, according to an LSU AgCenter survey. Over 190,000 acres of crops were damaged or destroyed, with soybeans suffering the largest losses at nearly $33 million. Avoyelles Parish was the hardest hit, accounting for over 60% of the statewide economic impact due to nearly 30 inches of rain in 24 hours. Other affected parishes include St. Landry, Rapides, Catahoula, Concordia, Evangeline, and Pointe Coupee. The storm also caused significant damage to farm infrastructure, machinery, and livestock, with 56 animals lost and 1,100 beehives destroyed. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain is seeking federal disaster assistance, including a USDA disaster declaration and additional congressional funding.
