Dangote Refinery Petrol Shipment Sparks Customs-Security Clash at Lagos Port
A petrol shipment from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery led to a confrontation at TinCan Island Port in Lagos, Nigeria, involving customs officials and security operatives. The vessel, MT Ny Maria, began discharging its cargo without final clearance from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), prompting customs officers to intervene. The NCS discovered that the vessel lacked complete documentation, specifically the last port clearance from its origin. Despite being under customs seal, the vessel commenced discharge operations, leading to a standoff with security personnel. The customs authority has resealed the vessel and is conducting an investigation into the incident.
