Record Participation in Pat's Run Raises Funds for Pat Tillman Foundation Scholarships
Nearly 30,000 runners took part in the 22nd Annual Pat's Run in Tempe, Arizona, setting a new participation record. The event honors Pat Tillman, a former NFL player who left his career to join the Army and was killed in Afghanistan. The run raises funds for the Pat Tillman Foundation, which provides scholarships to veterans, active-duty military personnel, and military spouses. This year's race was started by Rob Riggle, a Marine Corps veteran and comedian, who completed the 4.2-mile course. The foundation has awarded over $40 million in scholarships to more than 900 Tillman Scholars since its inception.
