US Air Force Seeks Advanced Target Drones to Mimic Stealth Jets and Bombers
The U.S. Air Force is actively seeking to acquire next-generation target drones capable of accurately mimicking the performance characteristics of a wide array of adversary aircraft, ranging from advanced stealth fighters and heavy bombers to various sizes of drones. This initiative aims to create a diverse family of target drones that can 'represent the full range of airborne threats.' According to a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the Air Force, these drones need to simulate capabilities such as supersonic speeds (exceeding Mach 1.6 at 40,000 feet), high-agility combat maneuvers, precise low-observable Radar Cross-section (RCS) profiles, multi-spectral Infrared (IR) signatures, active RF emissions, and integrated Electronic Attack (EA) capabilities for fighter simulations. For larger aircraft, the focus is on replicating physical scale, slow subsonic flight envelopes, and realistic radar returns. The Air Force is particularly interested in inexpensive, easily manufacturable drones that can be 'tr...
