SEPTA's AI Bus Cameras Lead to Decrease in Philadelphia Parking Violations
The installation of AI-powered cameras on SEPTA buses and trolleys in Philadelphia has resulted in a significant decrease in parking and stopping violations. Since the implementation of automated enforcement, approximately 212,000 violations have been captured, leading to $14.5 million in fines. The median travel time for buses in enforcement areas has decreased, indicating improved traffic flow. The program, which involves windshield-mounted cameras on 152 buses across 16 routes, has seen violations per camera hour drop significantly. The initiative aims to reduce congestion and improve public transportation efficiency in the city.
