Russian Nuclear Company Rosatom Accused of Safety Standard Violations in International Projects
Rosatom, a Kremlin-controlled nuclear power corporation, is facing accusations of violating safety standards in its international projects. These allegations come amidst Europe's sweeping sanctions against Russia following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine, during which Rosatom has attempted to maintain its image as a reliable nuclear power supplier. Specifically, the company's Egyptian plant, El Dabaa, which is currently under construction, is at the center of these claims. The technology used in El Dabaa is the same as that planned for Hungary's Paks II project, a Kremlin-backed nuclear expansion that has previously caused tensions between Budapest and the European Commission.
