Ghanaian Mother and Child Detained in U.S. to Return Home After Legal Battle
Annabella Gyasi, a pregnant woman from Ghana, and her young son, who were detained at Washington Dulles International Airport despite holding valid visas, are set to return to Ghana. They were detained after Gyasi expressed fear of persecution in Ghana and sought asylum. During their detention, Gyasi experienced pregnancy complications and inadequate access to food, according to her lawyers. The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia filed a petition on their behalf, leading to a U.S. District Judge's order allowing them to return home. The Department of Homeland Security, however, stated that all detainees receive appropriate care.
