NYC Composer Sues Over Alleged Discrimination in 'Wicked' Broadway Opportunity
Kevin Lynch, a composer from New York City, has filed a lawsuit claiming he was denied a directing opportunity with the Broadway musical 'Wicked' due to his race. The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Federal Court, alleges that the program, run by nonprofits MUSE and Maestra, only considered racial minorities, women, and nonbinary individuals for the role. Lynch, a Juilliard graduate, argues that this violates state and federal civil rights laws. He is seeking to prevent the consideration of race in future applications and is demanding unspecified damages.
