Utahns Participate in Inaugural Statewide Utah Reads Read-a-Thon to Promote Literacy
Utahns across the state participated in the first statewide Utah Reads Read-a-Thon, with over 275,000 students and adults expected to engage in reading activities. The event, held on a Friday, saw individuals picking up books in schools, libraries, and workplaces. Governor Spencer J. Cox and First Lady Abby Cox actively participated, reading with students at Guadalupe School and helping them select books. The First Lady also joined students in the Capitol rotunda, where books were donated by Marissa’s Books. Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson joined students at Mt. Loafer Elementary. Various libraries, including Spanish Fork Library, Duchesne County Library, and Orem Public Library, hosted special reading events, some featuring pajama parties and extended evening hours. The initiative is part of Utah Reads, a broader statewide effort aimed at enhancing children's reading skills and encouraging reading as a regular habit for all Utahns.
