Turkey Launches First Offshore Wind Energy Auction to Boost Renewable Capacity
The Turkish government is advancing its renewable energy strategy by launching its first offshore wind energy tender in 2026. The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has identified four areas in Saros Bay, Gökçeada, Bozcaada, and off the coast of Edremit as candidate Renewable Energy Resource Areas (YEKA). These areas are located in the western parts of Turkey, near the Aegean Sea and the border with Greece. The government plans to offer tenders for 1.5 GW of capacity this year, with a goal of adding 2 GW annually. By 2035, Turkey aims to achieve 5,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy capacity, supported by a $30 billion investment in transmission infrastructure.
