New York City Faces Severe Weather Threat with Potential Flash Flooding
New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area are under a flood watch due to severe weather conditions expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch effective until 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the highest risks of flash flooding in New York City, northeastern New Jersey, southwestern Connecticut, and the Lower Hudson Valley. Rainfall rates could reach 2-3 inches per hour, with total rainfall potentially exceeding 6 inches in some areas. The severe weather is attributed to a slow-moving low-pressure system, which could also bring damaging wind gusts of 60-70 miles per hour, posing a risk of power outages due to downed trees and power lines.
