CDC Reports Norovirus Outbreak on Florida-Bound Cruise Ship Affecting Over 100 Individuals
A norovirus outbreak has been reported on the Caribbean Princess cruise ship, which departed from Port Everglades, Florida, on April 28 and is scheduled to return to Port Canaveral on May 11. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 102 passengers and 13 crew members have fallen ill, exhibiting symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting. The virus, known for being highly contagious, is a leading cause of foodborne illness in the United States. It spreads rapidly through contact with infected individuals or contaminated food, water, or surfaces. In response to the outbreak, Princess Cruises has implemented increased cleaning measures aboard the ship and isolated those who are ill. The affected individuals represent approximately 3.3% of the 3,116 passengers on board.
