Las Cruces Therapist Sentenced to Five Years for $970,000 Medicaid Fraud
Nancy Marshall, a Las Cruces therapist and owner of Equine Assisted Programs of Southern New Mexico, has been sentenced to five years in prison followed by five years of probation for Medicaid fraud. Marshall pleaded guilty to six felony counts in June, including two counts each of Medicaid fraud, falsification of documents, and theft of identity. The sentencing occurred after Marshall failed to appear at her initial sentencing hearing with the required restitution payment. The New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ) investigation, initiated after two former employees reported improper practices, uncovered fraudulent Medicaid claims totaling $970,000 over approximately two and a half years. The investigation revealed that Marshall billed for services never rendered, charged for the treatment of children who were in school at the time of the alleged services, and committed identity theft by using other therapists' National Provider Identifier numbers for improper billing.
