NASA's Artemis II Crew Sets Record for Farthest Human Spaceflight
NASA's Artemis II mission has achieved a historic milestone by setting a new record for the farthest distance traveled by humans in space. The crew, consisting of NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, surpassed the previous record set by Apollo 13 in 1970. On April 6, 2026, the crew reached a distance of 248,655 miles from Earth, with plans to travel even further to approximately 252,760 miles before returning. This mission is part of NASA's Artemis program, which aims to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon. The crew is also conducting scientific observations and capturing images of the Moon's surface, including areas never before seen by human eyes.
