Monarch Butterflies Receive Help in Migration to Mexico
Bob Erlich, a butterfly enthusiast from Evergreen Park, Illinois, collaborated with Therese Smith from Austin, Texas, to save nine late-blooming monarch butterflies. The butterflies, which emerged too late in the season to migrate naturally, were at risk of dying due to the cooling temperatures in Chicago. Erlich, who has been running a butterfly hostel for 18 years, sent the pupas to Smith in Texas, where they successfully emerged as butterflies and were released to continue their migration to Mexico. This effort highlights the dedication of individuals working to support the endangered monarch population.
