APEC Digital Policy Working Group Advances Digital Identity and Innovation Projects
The APEC Digital Policy Working Group, hosted by South Korea, is actively pursuing several initiatives focused on digital transformation and innovation within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region. A significant development is the in-principle approval for 2025 of the APEC Digital Identity Equivalency Mapping project, operating under the Digital Economy Steering Group (DESG). This project aims to establish equivalencies for digital identities across member economies, facilitating smoother digital interactions and transactions. Additionally, the APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) has a digital-focused project proposed for 2026, though it has not yet received in-principle approval. These efforts are directly aligned with APEC's broader strategic goals outlined in the Putrajaya Vision 2040, particularly supporting the pillar of Innovation and Digitalization to foster a more resilient, dynamic, and inclusive Asia-Pacific.
