Former NFL Player Gaelin Elmore Advocates for Foster Care Reform at IUN Forum
Gaelin Elmore, a former NFL player, shared his personal experiences with the foster care system at the Indiana University Northwest Forum on Child Abuse and Neglect. Elmore, who spent his childhood in and out of foster care, emphasized the importance of belonging and community for children in the welfare system. He highlighted the need for careworkers to provide consistent support and connection to help children thrive. Elmore introduced the 'C.A.R.E. Method', focusing on compassion, authenticity, resilience, and empowerment, as a framework for improving outcomes for children in foster care.
