Newport Fire Department Responds to Rooftop Fire at Brenton Hotel, No Injuries Reported
A fire broke out on the roof of the Brenton Hotel in Newport, Rhode Island, on Friday night due to a malfunctioning fire pit. The Newport Fire Department responded promptly, arriving at the scene within 15 minutes of the fire's outbreak at approximately 9:17 p.m. The incident led to the temporary closure of the area around Long Wharf and America's Cup Avenue as firefighters utilized hydrants across the street. Fire crews had to open multiple levels of roofing material to ensure the fire had not spread beyond the initial site. The fire was brought under control by 9:54 p.m., allowing hotel guests to return to their rooms. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Newport Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
