Global Experts Rename PCOS to Reflect Its Multisystem Nature
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been officially renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) following a global consensus study. This change reflects the condition's complexity, involving endocrine, metabolic, reproductive, dermatological, and psychological health. The new name aims to address the inaccuracies of the previous term, which often led to misconceptions and stigma, particularly around fertility. The renaming is expected to reshape how the condition is diagnosed, treated, and researched globally, promoting earlier and more accurate diagnosis and supporting holistic, patient-centered care.
