Texas Panhandle Wildfires Prompt Urgent Warnings from Agriculture Commissioner
Wildfires continue to burn across the Texas Panhandle, fueled by dry conditions, high winds, and extreme heat. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has urged residents to remain vigilant, follow evacuation orders, and avoid activities that could ignite new fires. A red flag warning remains in effect for the region. The Texas Department of Agriculture is actively coordinating with state and local officials to support response efforts, focusing on protecting lives, livestock, and critical infrastructure. Resources such as the STAR Fund, Hay and Feed Hotline, and AgriStress Helpline have been mobilized to assist affected communities. The STAR Fund provides grants for rebuilding agricultural infrastructure, while the hotline connects hay donors and buyers. The AgriStress Helpline offers mental health support for rural Texans. Commissioner Miller emphasized the rapid spread of these fires and the importance of community preparedness.
