St. Clement's Island Museum Rebuilds to Enhance Historical Narratives and Community Engagement
The St. Clement's Island Museum in Coltons Point, Maryland, is undergoing a complete reconstruction, with the new two-story facility set to open in January 2027. The museum aims to offer a more comprehensive and inclusive presentation of local history, particularly focusing on the Piscataway community and Maryland's colonial past. The project involves a complete demolition and rebuild, rather than a renovation, to better display the museum's collection and provide a fuller understanding of the area's history. The museum will feature new exhibits, including a permanent display on the second floor that begins with Piscataway history and transitions into the English colonization and founding of Maryland. The museum is collaborating with the Piscataway community to ensure their history is accurately represented. The first floor will focus on the local community, with exhibits on the 7th District's history and a variety of interactive features for children.
