Turtle Creek Cleans Up After Rapid Flash Flooding Near Pittsburgh
Residents of Turtle Creek, a borough in the Pittsburgh area, are dealing with the aftermath of a sudden flash flood that occurred on Friday. The floodwaters rose rapidly, reaching four feet in just 15 minutes, and left a significant amount of mud and debris on the streets. Despite the severity of the flooding, no significant basement flooding was reported, and the water receded quickly. The local emergency management coordinator, Lou Lantzy, noted the speed of the water rise was unprecedented. The flooding has reignited concerns about the maintenance of local creeks, with ongoing disputes over responsibility between the borough and the county.
