In Alabama, Republicans have selected their nominee for the 2nd Congressional District, which was redrawn following a U.S. Supreme Court decision that weakened the Voting Rights Act. The district, previously a Democratic stronghold, was reshaped to favor Republicans. The race is significant as it could influence the balance of power in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Democratic incumbent, U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures, is seeking re-election despite the political challenges posed by the redistricting.
