Pentagon Expands Blacklist to Include Alibaba, BYD, and Other Chinese Firms Over Military Ties
The Pentagon has announced the addition of several prominent Chinese companies, including Alibaba, BYD, and Baidu, to its list of entities identified as 'Chinese military companies.' This move is part of a broader effort to address concerns over the involvement of these firms in sectors critical to U.S.-China technological competition. The designation, under Section 1260H of the National Defence Authorisation Act, targets companies across various industries such as electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and solar energy. While this classification complicates these companies' access to U.S. capital markets and government contracts, it does not automatically impose sanctions. The list also includes companies like Nio, WuXi AppTec, and TP-Link, among others.
