Medicare Advantage Enrollees Experience Lower Out-of-Pocket Costs Compared to Traditional Medicare
A recent analysis conducted by ATI Advisory for the Better Medicare Alliance reveals that Medicare Advantage (MA) enrollees spend significantly less on out-of-pocket costs compared to those in traditional Medicare. The study, which analyzed data from the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey and Cost Supplement files from 2021 to 2023, found that MA enrollees spent $2,824, or 36%, less on average in 2023. The report also highlighted that the savings have increased over time, with a 16% rise in 2023 compared to 2022. Despite the lower costs, MA beneficiaries reported similar satisfaction levels with their quality of care and access. The survey also noted that MA members were 15% more likely to have had an annual wellness visit than those in traditional Medicare.
