Democratic Socialists of America: Shifts in Political Endorsements and Influence
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), a prominent progressive organization, has seen shifts in its relationships with elected officials. Notably, the DSA withdrew its endorsement of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2024 due to disagreements on issues like the war in Gaza and the structure of the U.S. Senate. Similarly, Pennsylvania Rep. Summer Lee and Texas Rep. Greg Casar, once endorsed by the DSA, no longer identify as members. The DSA, with over 100,000 members, continues to influence progressive politics, advocating for policies such as universal healthcare and economic reforms.
