Representative Tim Moore Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Enhance Disaster Relief Coordination
Representative Tim Moore has introduced the 'HUD Disaster Information Improvement Act,' a bipartisan bill aimed at improving disaster-relief data sharing among the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Small Business Administration (SBA). Co-led by Representative Brittany Pettersen, the bill seeks to enhance coordination and efficiency in disaster response efforts. The proposed legislation mandates HUD to sign a memorandum of understanding with FEMA and the SBA to facilitate better data sharing, oversight, and efficiency. The bill is designed to reduce duplication, improper payments, waste, fraud, and abuse, while expediting disaster assistance. This initiative comes in response to challenges faced during major disasters like Hurricane Helene, highlighting the need for improved inter-agency collaboration.
