Andhra Pradesh Sees Decline in MGNREGA Performance, Affecting Workforce and Income
Andhra Pradesh has experienced a significant decline in employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for the fiscal year 2025-26. According to a report by LibTech India, a public policy research organization, there was a 23.2% decrease in total persondays generated, dropping from 2,422.84 lakh in 2024-25 to 1,859.77 lakh in 2025-26. Additionally, the number of registered households decreased by 6.1%, and those receiving work fell by 8.6%. The number of workers employed under the program also saw a reduction of 10.1%. This decline marks the weakest performance since the bifurcation of the state, highlighting a significant reduction in work generation, household participation, and worker incomes.
