Federal Trade Commission Halts Multiple Student Loan Debt Relief Schemes
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has taken action against several student loan debt relief schemes that allegedly defrauded borrowers of millions of dollars. These schemes, including those operated by Sunrise Solutions USA LLC, Alumni Advantage LLC, Student Processing Center Group LLC, SPCTWO LLC, Accredit LLC, and Superior Servicing, made deceptive claims about repayment programs and non-existent loan forgiveness. They falsely claimed affiliation with the Department of Education and charged illegal advance fees, often targeting vulnerable populations, including Spanish-speaking consumers in Puerto Rico. The FTC's actions have resulted in temporary halts, asset freezes, and permanent bans from the debt relief industry for individuals like Eric Caldwell and David Hernandez, who were required to turn over their assets.
