IBM Quantum Introduces Directed Execution Model for Enhanced Control and Performance in Quantum Computing
IBM Quantum has launched a new 'directed execution' model within its IBM Quantum Compute Service, designed to provide users with greater control and transparency over how their quantum circuits run on 100+ qubit systems. This lower-level execution model allows circuits to be run exactly as directed, offering an explicit and composable way to define circuit execution and a clear view into the hardware's operations. This advancement is crucial for exploring the full spectrum of error mitigation and error correction methods, from advanced mitigation techniques to error-correcting codes already being implemented on IBM quantum hardware. Error mitigation routines, previously hidden on IBM servers, now run client-side, enabling users to inspect, customize, and extend them. The directed execution model is powered by a new 'Executor' primitive, which scales to thousands of circuit variants and facilitates the composition of custom error mitigation and correction pipelines.
