Pope Leo XIV Urges Wealthy U.S. Catholics to Continue Donations for Global Projects
Pope Leo XIV has called on affluent U.S. Catholics to maintain their financial support for his charitable initiatives. During a meeting with The Papal Foundation in Rome, the Pope expressed gratitude for the foundation's contributions, which have enabled numerous projects worldwide. These include educational opportunities for clergy from impoverished nations and various development projects. The Papal Foundation, a significant benefactor of papal projects, has seen a resurgence in donations following the election of Pope Leo XIV, the first U.S.-born pope. The foundation announced over $15 million in grants for 2026, marking a record in its history. This increase in donations is attributed to the Pope's American roots and his focus on financial transparency, which has reinvigorated the donor base.
