Wildfire Smoke to Impact Large Swath of U.S. This Week
Smoke from 46 large uncontained wildfires in Oregon and Washington, along with smaller fires in the Pacific Northwest, is creating hazy skies and unhealthy air quality across the northern U.S. and parts of the South. As of Monday morning, these fires have burned over 1.6 million acres of wildland. Additionally, 17 uncontrolled fires in British Columbia are contributing to the smoke. The worst air quality was reported near Boise, Idaho, with very unhealthy particulate matter levels. Air quality advisories have been issued in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, urging residents to limit outdoor activities. The smoke is expected to spread across the Midwest and South, reaching as far as Florida, though the impact there is expected to be minimal.
