FDA and Taylor Farms Maintain Iceberg Lettuce Recall Amid Cyclospora Outbreak Confusion
The FDA and Taylor Farms are maintaining a recall of iceberg lettuce products despite a recent false positive test result. The recall, which affects products processed in central Mexico, was initiated due to a cyclospora outbreak that has sickened over 6,000 people, primarily in Michigan. The FDA's investigation linked the outbreak to shredded lettuce from Taylor Farms. Although a test result was later deemed a false positive, the FDA continues to advise against consuming the recalled products, citing strong epidemiological data supporting the recall. The affected products include various bagged iceberg salads with 'best if used by' dates from July 18 to August 3. The ongoing situation has led to confusion among consumers about the safety of eating lettuce, impacting businesses that serve these products.
