French Authorities Confine Cruise Ship After Suspected Norovirus Outbreak
French authorities have confined over 1,700 passengers and crew members aboard the cruise ship Ambition, docked in Bordeaux, due to a suspected norovirus outbreak. The vessel, carrying 1,233 passengers, mostly British and Irish nationals, reported about 50 individuals showing symptoms of the virus. A 92-year-old passenger died on the cruise, but the cause of death is yet to be confirmed as related to the virus. The cruise operator, Ambassador Cruise Line, has implemented enhanced sanitation protocols and is working with French health officials to manage the situation. Medical consultations for gastrointestinal illness are being provided free of charge, and a specialist medical team is conducting tests to confirm the presence of the virus.
