Louisiana Man Attacked by Alligator While Fleeing Police, Highlighting Risks of Impaired Driving
Victor Rivas, a 40-year-old man from Montz, Louisiana, was involved in a dramatic police chase that ended with an unexpected encounter with an alligator. The incident began when Louisiana State Police received reports of a Toyota Supra being driven recklessly on Interstate 10 in Jefferson Parish. The vehicle struck a concrete barrier, leading to a blowout. When troopers located the car in St. Charles Parish, they attempted to arrest Rivas for suspected driving while intoxicated. Rivas fled the scene, jumping from an elevated section of Interstate 310 into a swampy area. During his escape, he was attacked by an alligator, sustaining injuries to his arms. Despite the attack, Rivas continued to evade capture until he was eventually apprehended with the assistance of drone technology. He was treated at a hospital before being booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, and being a fugitive from Jefferson Parish.
