Freight Train Derails Near Petco Park, Disrupting San Diego Traffic
A freight train carrying automobiles derailed outside San Diego's Petco Park, causing several rail cars to overturn and lean against a bridge support. The incident occurred on the BNSF Railway tracks in Barrio Logan, beneath Harbor Drive. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no hazardous materials were released. However, the derailment has led to the closure of Harbor Drive in both directions, potentially for up to two weeks, as structural assessments and repairs are conducted. The derailment happened shortly before a scheduled baseball game between the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets, adding to the disruption in the area.
